There’s real talk of a travel bubble opening up between Sydney and New Zealand before Christmas. Let’s assume it will take a little longer and aim to travel in Feb/March 2021. We have two fabulous options that venture beyond New Zealand’s greatest hits to take in some more remote parts: Depending on popular demand, we’re ready to head to the very end of the road - either to Cape Reinga at the top of the north island or to Slope Point at the very bottom of the south island:
OPTION 1: NORTH ISLAND
Fly to Auckland - tour the city and take a wine tour of the beautiful harbour-island of Waiheke
Explore Cape Reinga, the most northerly point of NZ’s North Island
Visit the must-see Bay of Islands region with its many attractions - ancient kauri forests, the magical island-dotted bay, historic Waitangi Treaty Grounds
Explore the beauty and variety of the Coromandel Peninsular, from small-gauge railway to the unusual Hot Water Beach where you can dig your own spa bath (or pay someone to do it for you!)
OR …
OPTION 2: SOUTH ISLAND
Fly from Sydney to Queenstown on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, not to be confused with Lake Whykikamoocow!. Stay 4 nights in this captivating resort town with many attractions - native birdlife, beautifully preserved gold-mining history, stunning vistas and fabulous food and wine.
Take a flight to visit the iconic Milford Sound for a day
Drive through wine country to Dunedin to meet its amazing wildlife from albatross to seals, and explore the beautiful hinterland gorges by historic train
Visit the rugged beauty of the Catlins on the south eastern coast, sculpted by persistent and strong winds
Visit Invercargill, NZ’s most southern city and gateway to some magical wilderness areas
Transfer to Stewart Island by ferry for a 2-night stay. Sole home to kiwis in the wild, if you’re up for it take an optional night-tour to see them in their natural habitat.
Return to Queenstown for the flight back to Sydney
A host will accompany the group to help ensure you get the most out of the tour. For expert local knowledge, we’ll engage local area guides to ensure we get the lowdown.
